Education
I am a Senior English Education Major at Appalachian State University preparing to student teach in the Fall. My current cumulative GPA is 3.74, and I expect to graduate with departmental Honors after completing my thesis this summer.
Experience
Throughout my college career, I have interned in high school English classes, Reading classes, and after school tutoring programs. I have also provided childcare services to several families in Boone. I enjoy working with every age group, from preschoolers to college students. Naturally, reading and writing are my most proficient subjects. I always strive to foster an appreciation for reading with my students. Though I am still a student myself, I have already experienced working with English language learners and students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD. As a high school student, I worked intensively on developing reading and writing skills with my younger sister, who struggles with ADHD and mild Dyslexia. For this reason, I am particularly interested in working with students who have similar issues. While attending ASU, I have taken classes on teaching writing and composition, reading comprehension, special needs education, adolescent literacy, and teaching methods for grades 6-12. I live to help students learn, and I would love the opportunity to work one-on-one with students outside of the classroom setting.
